On kriya and "spine"....

Ciao, I'm an italian kriyaban

Sometimes I reread the relevant texts to the kriya yoga and, also, the SRF' lessons, some Ananda's letters for kriyabans, etc...

On the practice of the kriya pranayam, in all this texts that I have, the techniques comes described speaking always of spine (without special supplementary deepening); but, in italian language, this word is referred mainly to the physical spine and not to the astral spine.

Just for to explain the misunderstanding...

Who Do Guru?

I think I've got a fair question, and if it's been discussed before, you'll have to excuse me.

There's been a lot of talk about Gurus on this board. Who is real, who isn't? How much should a Guru be allowed to control the student? etc.

My question is: Who has the right to call someone, who is out of the body, their Guru?

Before Yogananda left his body he would accept disciples or in some cases deny them such as a woman that flew all the way from Switzerland expecting to...

They are twins, born 3 months premature, nine months ago. Noah has a damaged "left recurrent nerve" and this affects his voice but more importantly his breathing. First Post, please pardon me if this has been answered elsewhere on this site.

I know longer feel obligated to SRF. I am looking for a place to be given Kriya lessons.

Paramahamsa Hariharananda and his successor Paramahamsa Prajnanananda have a branch in Chicago. That is the closest I can be given the lessons in the Mid-west without waiting for SRF to visit once every 2-3 years.

Do you know anything about Paramahamsa Hariharananda? I see on their website they continue...

What writings do you trust

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm interested in people's current opinions. Since PY said after he was gone "the teachings" would be the guru, but those teachings are filtered through SRF, which, if any, of the writings do people consider accurate representations of Paramahansa Yogananda's thought?

Hi there everyone. I'm about ready to receive Kriya (I've been practicing for a year). I've been with SRF for 2-3 years. But, now that I've read Walrus, I have doubts. I spent years and years reading and following every letter from the Matas and books of Yoganandaji, but now I don't like them (the Bad Ladies) anymore. Do people recommend that I take Kriya from SRF or another organization. If from another organization which one?

When I joined SRF, several years ago, I had thought I'd go through the lessons and eventually receive Kriya initiation. Then I got more than a bit disenchanted with SRF after personally witnessing monastic behavior that really put me off about the organization. I'd had bad experiences with religeous organizations before, though they were Christian churches, and am especially wary when it comes to initiations. Personally, I balk at the idea of having to pledge membership to any organization...

Can anyone tell me if SRF modified the first kriya that they teach? I read somewhere that this was true. Many people in my study group say that they feel stuck after years of practice and haven't felt any progress. If people are doing Kriya the wrong way this may be the reason. If so, was this change done because it was an easier way to teach it or because those in power wanted to conceal the techniques? Sunday School

I am new to this board. I have been attending SRF services in Phoenix for about 6 years. I have involved my children in Sunday School here as well. While I have always had doubts about accepting SRF as my church, I felt that as far as churches go, this was more open-minded than both and a good choice for introducing children to religious ideas. In spite of the politics and my own decision to receive Kriya outside of SRF, I feel that I haven't seen anything better out there for a Sunday...

Does SRF encourage its members to isolate themselves and break relationships with friends and family that are not on the path? Is this in the lessons or is it something the monks at the temple say?
